I’ve just finished reading this handy brief guide to the life and work of Jean-Paul Sartre.
I read some of his books in my youth.
Now I just think: what an unhappy life, and what a dreary, claustrophobic philosophy.
There’s a great quote at the very end of the book from Angela Carter:
There is one question every thinking woman in the Western World must have asked herself at one time or another. Why is a nice girl like Simone De Beauvoir sucking up to a boring old fart like Jean Paul Sartre?
I’ve never read any De Beauvoir. Maybe that should be next.
